No, I'm Not Dead

I realized today I have not posted on my blog in two weeks. My other responsibilities, such as earning a living, teaching Sunday School, and being a parent, have trumped the blog in recent days. I intend to be back soon.

Meanwhile, enjoy the month of April!

Blogger Blahs

Man, has December been a busy month! And on top of it all, illness has beset me for the past couple weeks, I've been travelling, and etc., etc....

Then there's been the mental/writing block. It seems that I can only think of worthwhile blogging topics at odd times (like, for example, when I'm driving my car or moments before I fall asleep for the night). Or, truth be told, I have the occasional urge to write on something horrifically controversial, but can't think of a good way to do it. (For example, one of these days I'm going to write a post on why ladies should always wear nylons with skirts/dresses when attending any sort of formal event or church service, but I can't even come up with a good title for the post. Another topic: Who still knows how to dress for a wedding?)

With a lot of huge elections coming up this year, a Sunday School lesson series in the works, and the inevitable events of 2010 looming, I'm sure the writing juices will soon start flowing freely again. Happy New Year to everyone!

The Right Online Conference

As the winner of the 2nd Annual RightMichigan.com Blogger's Challenge, I have the honor of attending the Right Online conference this Friday and Saturday in Pittsburgh, PA. I plan to be frequently posting from that conference, and here are some of the things I hope to address:

  • Making your blog better, and making it better known to more people.
  • Getting your message across.

In my case, the two topics I blog most about are (in order of frequency) politics and biblical issues. I am passionate about these topics, I have learned much about them, and I want others to see things as I see them.

  • Using facebook (which I already employ) and twitter (which I don't) effectively.
  • What new things I have learned about the issues of the day.

I also intend to cross-reference my posts at RightMichigan.com, since Nick told me I could.

It's going to be a busy blogging weekend...here I come!

Why Do I Blog?

I have had this blog for over two years and have made over 600 entries. Why? What would possess me to develop such a habit?

I offer the following reasons:

1. I enjoy it. Really, I do. This blog deals with three topics near and dear to my heart: The Word of God, the greatest of academic subjects, and politics (national, state, and local—I find them all fascinating).

2. It is intellectually cathartic. Considering a position on an issue and then composing something affirming that position is itself a worthwhile activity.

3. I like to share my opinions. Those who have known me for a long time should already be aware of this.

4. It is a form of teaching, and I love teaching. Sadly today, many people are unlearned in the three topics this blog focuses upon. Ignorance about politics is dangerous, and ignorance about mathematics is crippling. Ignorance about the Bible is the saddest of all, as there are eternal consequences involved.

It gives me joy to consider that someone may read my blog and learn something, not just about current events or my opinions, but about something that will benefit them and make them wiser. Which brings me to....

5. It is an opportunity to share truth. "Truth" here begs for definition. I believe the Bible is truth (John 17:17; 2 Tim. 2:15), so to share the Bible is, quite literally, to share the Truth. In mathematics, the subject matter itself reflects truth (consider, for instance, the common acceptance of facts like 5 + 6 = 11). Politics, as a subject, does not seem to have the "truth content" of the other topics, but there are certainly things that are true about government, liberty, law, and economy that ought to be shared.

Some observant folks will see that I share both opinion and truth in my blog. There is a difference. That I thought the "stimulus bill" passed in February was disastrous is an opinion. That all of us are created by a Creator, and that it is He Who has given us what rights and liberties we have, is a fact. Some disagree with me. This is my blog, not theirs.

As the title bar at the top of my blog states, Psalm 19:14 should describe what I do here.

Hysterical Blog!

If you haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh this week, you might not have heard of Barack Obama's Teleprompter's Blog. This is perhaps the most amusing little bit of writing I have encountered in a long time.

Tele Prompter tells it from his perspective as the TOTUS. (Think about it—you'll figure it out.) Earlier this week, Rush Limbaugh asked him a series of questions, which he is working on answering over the course of several days.

It is hysterical. Enjoy!
